backlit poppy

backlit poppy
Originally uploaded by Muffet.

I marched in today's Memorial Day parade. En route, I passed two large groups of poppies. They were unusual, because they had several layers of petals. Turned out that one group came from the other person's yard. After the parade, I went back and took pictures.

misty sunrise

I woke super early, wide awake, and decided to take advantage of the early hour by prowling around with my camera. This is my neighbor's barn, barely visible through the mist.

lily of the valley

These flowers are hard to capture on film, because they're so hidden within the foliage usually. I liked the shadow seen through the leaf on the right.

lilacs at window

Originally uploaded by Muffet.

I take a lot of flower pictures this time of year. The landlord at my office, Rich, encouraged all his renters to cut lilac blooms from his huge bushes. Their perfume was so potent that several other people removed the flowers from their offices. I had cut fewer stems and was fine.

I know, it's out of season, but I just stumbled across this again and liked it. So I decided to post it before I forgot about it again.

You can almost track spring by seeing the flowers that I'm photographing. First tulips and daffodils, and now tree blossoms. The lilacs are coming, believe me!

bee embracing flower

I love the fat bumblebees that appear in springtime and swarm over the rhodedendrons. The plants begin to buzz. They flit around and I found them hard to capture in an image, so I was happy with this.

New England Farm

New England Farm
Originally uploaded by Muffet.

I am a sucker for old New England farms. This one is somewhere on the Acton-Littleton border and has a spectacular view of a lake. It's a pretty typical farm, with the barn across the street from the main house.

These red leaves are as colorful as flowers. This red Japanese maple is right next door to my office. The light hits the leaves and sets them on fire.

I've taken dozens of pictures of these tulips, which seemed to look great at every stage.

In springtime, I usually photograph trees, blossoms, and flowers galore. Occasionally, though, I will try something else. This was one of a series I'm trying to see how well my new camera captures colors. So far, so good.
